About
Prof. Markus Disse holds the Chair of Hydrology and River Basin Management at the Technische Universität München (TUM), part of the School of Engineering and Design. His research focuses on hydrological data analysis, applied hydrological modeling, and sustainable water resource management, addressing global change impacts on flood/drought prediction and digitalization. He earned his doctorate in 1995 from Karlsruhe University and has held positions at the Federal Institute of Hydrology and Bundeswehr University before joining TUM in 2013.
Education: Civil engineering studies at Universities of Hannover and Karlsruhe (1983–1990), with a doctorate in Hydrology. Career highlights include leadership roles at the Federal Institute of Hydrology and pioneering work on river oases in Central Asia through projects like SuMaRiO.
Research Interests: Climate change adaptation, integrated water resources management, flood risk mitigation, and hydrological digitalization using AI/big data. Current projects include GrüneGräben+, WE-ACT, and Hydromix, addressing nature-based solutions and transboundary water allocation.
Awards: Honors include the Badge of Honor from the German Water Association (2022) and the Edwin Züblin Diploma Award (1990). His work spans over 100 publications, emphasizing flood modeling, glacial catchments, and eco-hydrological systems.
Grants/Advising: Involved in EU-funded projects and serves on advisory boards for the Austrian Academy of Sciences and DWA Bavaria. His team explores decision support systems and resilience strategies for water governance.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Hydrology Lab at TUM, collaborating on field measurements, water laboratories, and vadose zone modeling. Ongoing research focuses on Bavarian flood resilience and Central Asian river ecosystems.
