Mark Williams is a Sessional Lecturer at Vancouver Island University (VIU), teaching Political Studies and Global Studies since 2013. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science (International Relations) from McMaster University and M.A. and B.A. degrees in Political Science from Brock University. His research focuses on Canadian foreign policy, Asia-Pacific politics, and the politics of sport, with a current project on Canadian foreign policy and the rules-based international order.
Williams has published extensively on topics including ASEAN diplomacy, environmental governance, and the weaponization of oil. His recent works include The Politics of the Asia-Pacific: Triumphs, Challenges, and Threats (2022) and The Politics of MMA: Sport vs. Spectacle (2018). He teaches courses such as International Security, Canadian Foreign Policy, and Political Economy.
Williams has received notable awards, including the VIU Dean’s Scholarship (2020) and the Brock University Teaching Excellence Award (2012). His work combines academic rigor with practical insights from over a decade of teaching and research in global and political studies.
