Mark Vincent dela Cerna

Dr. Mark Vincent dela Cerna serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Physics at Georgia Southern University's College of Science and Mathematics, joining the institution in Fall 2022. His research focuses on drug discovery, characterization of human protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs), and structural biology of phosphatases, with office located in Armstrong Science Center Room 2012.

The dela Cerna Research Group employs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy to characterize human PTPs and develop chemical probes for studying protein functions and therapeutic applications. Their work extends to investigating understudied proteins to uncover cellular mechanisms and potential drug targets, bridging biochemistry, structural biology, and drug discovery.

Dr. dela Cerna teaches CHM 3100: Instrumental Analysis and BCHM 3100: Bioinstrumental Analysis, integrating advanced analytical techniques into his curriculum.
