Mark U. Reimer

Dr. Mark U. Reimer serves as Distinguished Professor of Music and the George and Mary Torggler Professor of Music at Christopher Newport University, where he also directs the Music program and conducts the Wind Ensemble. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in wind conducting and literature while maintaining an active international profile as a guest conductor and clinician.

His academic credentials include:

• Doctor of Music (DM) in Conducting from Indiana University (first recipient of this degree)
• Master of Music (MM) in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music
• Bachelor of Music (BM) in Music Education from Drake University (voted "Most Outstanding Senior" by faculty)

Dr. Reimer's research centers on wind literature and performing arts administration, with significant contributions to wind ensemble performance practices. His scholarly work bridges academic theory and practical application through conducting pedagogy and ensemble leadership.

Professional recognition includes:

• CNU Alumni Society Award for Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring (2011)

As an educator, he mentors students through Wind Ensemble direction and conducting instruction, with his international tours exposing students to cultural exchange in Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Scotland, and Slovenia. His administrative leadership extends to accreditation work with the National Association of Schools of Music.

Dr. Reimer founded the Journal of Performing Arts Leadership in Higher Education and maintains active professional engagement as Past President of the College Division of the Virginia Music Educators Association and Past Province Governor of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
