Mark Tollefsen is an Associate Professor of Piano and Music Theory at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNC Pembroke), where he teaches piano to undergraduate and graduate music majors. He has previously held academic positions at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Ohio Northern University, Kentucky State University, and Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

He has released eight albums featuring premiere recordings of works by composers such as David Lipten and Frederic Rzewski.
Tollefsen advocates for new music, having performed over one hundred works by living composers and participated in more than thirty world or regional premieres. His recent highlights include solo recitals at Steinway Hall (New York) and the 2019 International Conference of the College Music Society in Ghent, Belgium.
