Mark Scholtes

Dr. Mark Scholtes is a Lecturer in Contemporary Music (Songwriting and Production) at the University of Southern Queensland since 2013. He holds a Master of Music (MMusic) from Griffith University (2015). An ARIA-nominated and APRA award-winning songwriter and recording artist, Scholtes has collaborated with music industry legends like Tommy LiPuma, Al Schmitt, and Larry Klein. His career includes major label recordings, film/TV placements, and international tours. He is signed to EMI Music Publishing Australia.

Research Interests: Songwriting, music production, collaborative creativity, and practice-led research. His work focuses on studio collaboration, creative processes, and the intersection of music with technology/performance.

Recent Work Trends: Recent articles and performances emphasize collaborative studio practices, jazz fusion, live concert production, and regional music festivals. His 2023 PhD thesis explored collaborative studio dynamics in record production.
