Mark Reeves

Mark Reeves serves as a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of the West of England, within the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries, and Education (ACE). He joined UWE Bristol in 2023 following a post-doctoral teaching position at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Reeves specializes in 20th-century decolonisation history across Asia and Africa, with concentrated expertise in West Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. His research investigates how anticolonial activists framed decolonisation as a regional and global project beyond national boundaries, analyzing networks like the League against Imperialism and Rotary Club, alongside strategic use of imperial rhetoric in the 1941 Atlantic Charter. He has particular focus on Pan-African, Pan-Asian, and Pan-Arab movements, with recent work published in the Journal of West African History examining Nigeria's Governor-General Nnamdi Azikiwe and pan-Africanist initiatives.
