Mark Luer

Mark Luer is a Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Dean of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy. He previously served as the inaugural Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice (2004-2012) and Associate Dean of Professional and Student Affairs (2012-2018) at SIUE. His career spans faculty roles at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Luer’s research and clinical focus centers on Neurology, Neurocritical Care, and Clinical Pharmacokinetics. His practice specialties include pharmacotherapy for subarachnoid hemorrhage, post-traumatic seizures, head/spinal cord injuries, and intracranial hypertension. From 1993 to 2004, he provided direct patient care in neurointensive care units at major academic hospitals.

Dr. Luer has played pivotal roles in establishing SIUE’s School of Pharmacy, building community partnerships, and shaping academic standards for pharmacy students. His administrative work includes oversight of admissions, student conduct, professional licensure, and scholarships.
