Associate Professor Mark Hinder researches age-related changes in motor control and cognitive function at the University of Tasmania. His work examines how brain structure and function changes affect everyday tasks across the lifespan.
Using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), he investigates:
- Neural mechanisms of motor learning and control
- Brain plasticity in aging and dementia
- Cognitive-motor interactions
- Compensatory mechanisms after brain damage
His research has received continuous ARC funding since 2012, including a Future Fellowship (2016-2020). Current projects examine how brain connectivity patterns relate to preserved function in older adults and develop stimulation protocols to enhance recovery.
