Mark Ginsburg is a Visiting Senior Research Scholar in the International Education Policy program at the University of Maryland (USA). He holds a Ph.D. from UCLA (1976) and has held faculty positions at universities including Houston, Pittsburgh, Teachers College Columbia (USA), Aston (England), Oslo (Norway), Kobe (Japan), and Ciencias Pedagógicas “Enrique Jose Varona” (Cuba). His career includes roles at AED/FHI 360 (2006-2016) and leadership positions such as C.I.E.S. president (1991-1992) and coeditor of the Comparative Education Review (2003-2013).
His research focuses on teacher education, educational reform, and education in conflict/crisis contexts, with a specialized emphasis on Cuba’s education system and the impact of U.S. policies on Cuban education. Though not currently teaching, he previously taught courses like Comparative Education and Teachers’ Work: An International Perspective.
Dr. Ginsburg has produced over 150 scholarly works including 8 authored/co-authored books, 5 journal special issues, and numerous book chapters. His recent research prioritizes Cuba studies, reflecting over 20 field visits to the country.
