Mark Cryan

Mark Cryan serves as Assistant Professor of Sport Management within the School of Communications at Elon University, where he transitioned from adjunct faculty (2007) to full-time faculty in 2012. His office is located in Long Hall, room 202B (2350 Campus Box, Elon, NC 27244).

His educational background includes:

Cryan's research centers on the business of baseball—particularly its operations in the Dominican Republic—and community youth sport development. He maintains deep expertise in professional sports management, physical activity initiatives for underserved youth populations, and the intersection of baseball with tourism economics. His work bridges academic theory with two decades of frontline experience in sports administration.

He founded the Coastal Plain League and authored Cradle of the Game: Baseball & Ballparks in North Carolina (2008, 2nd ed. 2014). Cryan leads an annual Winter Term study abroad program to the Dominican Republic examining baseball's business infrastructure and tourism industry linkages. His service includes chairing the Alamance County Tourism Development Authority and serving on boards for Alamance-Burlington Sports Development Council, Piedmont Carolinas Red Cross, and Alamance Partnership for Children.
