Mark Cervenka

Mark Cervenka is a Professor at the University of Houston-Downtown within the College of Arts and Communication. He serves as the director of the O'Kane Gallery, where he has published seven articles and secured 12 grants for exhibition programming.

His academic credentials include an MFA in Sculpture and a BFA in Studio Art from Claremont Graduate School and The University of Texas at Austin, respectively. He also holds a BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin.

Professor Cervenka’s research focuses on integrating visual arts with humanities education, emphasizing exhibition programming and curatorial practices. His work has been supported by significant grant funding, reflecting his leadership in cultural and educational initiatives.

He teaches courses such as Introduction to Visual Arts, Field Experience in Humanities, and Special Topics in Studio Art, with a pedagogical approach grounded in practical, hands-on learning experiences.

As director of the O'Kane Gallery, he oversees exhibition programming and curatorial projects, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations between art and humanities disciplines.
