Dr. Mark Bailey is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Acc, Finance & Economics at Ulster University Business School. He serves as Course and Subject Director of Economics, teaching applied microeconomics, business strategy, and quantitative methods. With a PhD and BA from Coventry University, his career spans teaching at both Coventry and Ulster Universities since 2000. His research focuses on applied business economics—using microeconometric tools to analyze markets like labor, education, and energy—and historical business economics, particularly 19th-century British railway regulation. He contributed to UK educational policy as a CCEA representative for the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in 2007.
Research interests include the economic rationale of historical regulations and modern healthcare market dynamics. His work addresses topics such as SME economic impacts, NHS supplier-purchaser relationships, and cross-country educational outcomes. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
