Mark Adams

Mark Adams is a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead for Photography at the School of the Arts, York St John University. His practice and research focus on landscape representation, particularly post-industrial legacies and the cultural forces shaping environments. He employs large-format photography and extended walks to explore indeterminate spaces, blending empirical and allegorical photographic techniques.

Adams' research investigates the cognitive and intuitive aspects of walking as a method for creating landscape photography. His PhD explored the interplay between walking, photography, and navigation tools. Notable publications include Peregrinus [Bede’s Walk] (2020), a hybrid map-photo book, and contributions to Der Greif and Observations in the Ordinary.
