About
Dr. Marisa Repasch is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico (UNM). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Potsdam (Germany, 2021). Her research focuses on Earth surface processes, particularly the interplay between erosion, sediment transport, and the global carbon cycle, with particular emphasis on Arctic and Andean environments. She uses cosmogenic radionuclide geochemistry, stable isotope analysis, and field instrumentation to study how climate change and human activities impact carbon storage and transport.
Key research sites include the Canning River (Alaska), Yukon River Delta, and Rio Bermejo (Argentina). Collaborations with institutions like USGS and Sandia National Laboratories leverage advanced facilities such as the Center for Stable Isotopes (CSI) and the Electron Microbeam Facility at UNM. Her work addresses critical questions about permafrost thaw, fluvial organic carbon dynamics, and the effects of river engineering on carbon cycling.
Dr. Repasch actively mentors undergraduate and graduate students, emphasizing inclusive recruitment in geosciences. Current projects investigate Arctic hydrologic change, carbon sequestration in floodplains, and lithospheric flexure impacts on river systems. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges geomorphology, geochemistry, and climate science to improve predictive models of Earth system feedbacks.
