Professor Marion Meyer is a scholar of Classical Archaeology affiliated with the University of Vienna and a visiting A.D. Trendall Fellow at the Institute of Classical Studies (ICS) in London during mid-April to mid-June 2022. Her career includes professorships at the University of Bonn (1997–2003) and the University of Vienna (2003–2020), with prior teaching roles in Munich, Hamburg, and Gainesville, Florida.
Her research focuses on ancient Greek culture, visual communication, and the socio-cultural significance of ancient images. Key interests include the Acropolis of Athens, Hellenistic art (e.g., city tychai figures), and acculturation processes in the Eastern Mediterranean. Current projects analyze the visual representation of Ptolemaic royalty in Egypt and commemoration practices in Classical Athens.
Her 2017 monograph Athena, Goddess of Athens explores religious and mythological themes on the Acropolis. During her ICS fellowship, she examines material evidence (500–400 BCE) for public and private commemoration rituals.
