Joseph Morgan

Joseph Morgan is an Assistant Professor of Classics and Letters at the University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on the social, economic, and environmental history of the Ptolemaic Kingdom (Hellenistic Mediterranean), particularly how institutions influenced individual decision-making during the Third Century BCE. He integrates papyrological, literary, and archaeological evidence to reconstruct daily life and socio-economic dynamics in Ptolemaic Egypt.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Ancient History, Yale University
• M.A. in Classics, Washington University in St. Louis
• B.A. in Classics, Washington and Lee University

Current projects include a monograph on social change in Ptolemaic Egypt and articles on early Ptolemaic cartonnage from Yale University and the University of Toronto. He specializes in provenance tracing of ancient texts through 'museum archaeology.'

Previously served as a postdoctoral fellow in Classics at Florida State University.
