Maria Strecht Almeida is an Assistant Professor at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) in Portugal. She holds a Biochemistry degree from the University of Porto and a Sociology PhD specializing in Culture, Knowledge, and Communication from the University of Coimbra. Her teaching spans biophysics and interdisciplinary science-society dialogue at the undergraduate level.
Research interests focus on the sociology of science, particularly knowledge dynamics in life sciences and biomedicine. She serves on the Portuguese Sociology Association’s 'Knowledge, Science, and Technology' section coordination team (2018–2022) and is an editorial board member of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education. Active in ethics and education, she leads continuing education courses on topics like scientific knowledge cultures and ethical challenges in health sciences since 2018.
