Maria Pantazi

Maria Pantazi is a Researcher at the Department of History, European University Institute. She is part of the 2023 cohort and focuses on the intersection of social networks, social distance, and survival strategies in Thessaloniki during Jewish deportations in the 20th century. Her work is supervised by Pieter M. Judson, with Benno Bastian Gammerl serving as second reader.

Research Interests: Maria’s research explores the socio-historical dynamics of marginalized communities during periods of extreme persecution, particularly analyzing how social structures and interpersonal networks influenced survival outcomes. Her thesis addresses the historical context of Jewish deportations in Thessaloniki, examining the interplay between societal exclusion and resilience.
