Maria Cozens

Maria Cozens is a Lecturer at the School of Life and Health Sciences, with dual qualifications as a Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurse. She holds a PGCE and 7 years of teaching experience across two higher education institutions.

Her research focuses on care escalation for individuals with severe/profound disabilities, support worker experiences in residential care, reasonable adjustments for nursing students under the Equality Act (2010), and identity development in dual-registered nurses. She advocates for person-centered learning, parity of esteem between physical and mental health, and allyship promotion for marginalized groups.

Scientific contributions include publications on role clarity in community learning disability nursing and service user experiences in mental health services, alongside chapter contributions to key nursing texts. Awards include Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2015). She maintains clinical currency as an advanced mental health practitioner and serves as an External Examiner at the University of Northampton.
