Dr. Maria Bianca D’Anna is an associated researcher in Heritage Sciences at the Austrian Archaeological Institute (ÖAI) in Vienna, Austria. She holds a PhD in Western Asia Archaeology from the Free University of Berlin (2019), and prior degrees from Sapienza University, Rome, including a Magister in Prehistory and Protohistory of the Near East. Her research focuses on the archaeology of food practices, formation of complex societies in West Asia, ceramic studies, gender archaeology, and museum development.
Professional Experience:
- Postdoctoral Fellow at ANAMED (Koç University, Istanbul), 2019–2021
- Research Fellow at the German Archaeological Institute (Istanbul Department), 2019–2021
Research Contributions: She has conducted fieldwork in Turkey, Syria, Azerbaijan, and Iraqi Kurdistan. Key projects include co-organizing exhibitions and contributing to museum development at Arslantepe (Turkey, UNESCO World Heritage Site). Currently, she supports the Heritage Science Austria network as part of the European E-RIHS infrastructure initiative.
