Maria Bania is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg’s Academy of Music and Drama, holding dual roles as Assistant Head of Department and Head of Music. She specializes in music performance studies, particularly focusing on 18th- and 19th-century practices. Her research explores historical performance aesthetics, affective strategies, and the interplay between theory and practice in music.
She earned her doctorate in artistic research at Gothenburg University, examining flute vibrato and articulation techniques in historical contexts.
