Margreet Olthof is an Associate Professor at the Department of Health Sciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), holding additional roles as Program Director of the Master Health Sciences and Confidential Counselor at the Faculty of Science. She also affiliates with the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute and APH research groups (Aging & Later Life, Health Behaviors & Chronic Diseases). Her PhD (Wageningen University, 2001) focused on flavonoid bioavailability, followed by post-doctoral work at TI Food and Nutrition before joining VU Amsterdam in 2005.
Research focuses on nutrition's role in chronic disease prevention, including coffee/sugar effects, protein intake in aging populations, childhood obesity prevention, and policy impacts like sugar taxation. Key projects include the PEN consortium evaluating lifestyle intervention policies and the EU-funded PROMISS trial addressing malnutrition in seniors.
Teaching responsibilities include core courses in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition Research, and BSc/MSc thesis supervision.
