Margot Koster

Dr. Margot Koster is an Associate Professor at Utrecht University's Faculty of Science, affiliated with the Department of Biology and the Biology Education Institute. Her academic career has focused on molecular microbiology, particularly bacterial protein secretion systems and iron acquisition mechanisms in Pseudomonas species.

Education:

• 1988: Master’s in Biology, Utrecht University
• 1994: PhD in Molecular Genetics, Utrecht University

Koster's research spans bacterial pathogenesis, genetic engineering, and biocatalysis, with notable work on type II and III secretion systems in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Yersinia enterocolitica. She has also contributed to educational technology projects, such as Learning Analytics and ICT integration in student preparation.

• 2017–present: Director of Studies for Bachelor Biology

In collaboration with the municipality of Utrecht, Royal Haskoning DHV, and Theoretical Biology and Bioinformatics groups, she participated in the Griftpark project (2016–2018) to study ecological and microbiological systems.
