About
Margaret Docker is Professor of Biological Sciences specializing in conservation genetics of freshwater fishes. Research examines lamprey evolutionary biology, sex determination mechanisms, and environmental DNA applications. Her lab investigates genetic diversity in native fish species and develops molecular monitoring tools.
Key projects include characterizing the new lamprey genus Occidentis, analyzing gut microbiomes in sea lamprey larvae, and using eDNA for monitoring endangered species like Chestnut Lamprey. Docker chairs COSEWIC's Freshwater Fishes Subcommittee and serves on the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. She leads research on parelaphostrongylid parasites in ungulates and develops genomic tools through the GEN-FISH network.
