Marcus Sherman

Marcus Sherman is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the Roux Institute, Northeastern University, specializing in bioinformatics education and research. His work bridges genomic tool development and pedagogical innovation, focusing on making bioinformatics accessible through Python-based frameworks.

He earned a BS in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and a PhD in Bioinformatics from the University of Michigan. His doctoral research centered on human genome structural variation and the development of the BAMnostic tool for cross-platform genomic analysis.

Sherman leads initiatives in interdisciplinary science education, including the Pedagogy of Interdisciplinary Science Education (POISE) program. He is an active contributor to the Python ecosystem, particularly Jupyter Notebook, and supports PyCon as staff.
