David A. Sherman

David A. Sherman is an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment at Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences (Department of Physical Therapy, Movement, and Rehabilitation Sciences) and College of Engineering (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering). He earned his DPT (2014) and BS in Athletic Training (Boston University) and a PhD in Exercise Science (University of Toledo, 2022), followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard and Boston University School of Medicine.

His research focuses on movement neuroscience, sensorimotor physiology, and clinical rehabilitation, particularly investigating chronic pain and motor impairments in orthopedic populations. He develops wearable sensor technologies and neuromodulation strategies to enhance rehabilitation outcomes, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches combining engineering and clinical practice. Recent work explores ACL reconstruction recovery, muscle inhibition mechanisms, and innovative rehabilitation tools like the Torqlab platform.

His publications span 20+ peer-reviewed articles (2020–2025), addressing topics such as corticospinal excitability, torque steadiness metrics, and systemic reviews of force control post-injury. Sherman collaborates with academic and clinical networks to advance translational research, aiming to bridge gaps between neuroscience insights and practical rehabilitation solutions.
