Marco Milani

Marco Milani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of the Arts at the University of Bologna (Italy), specializing in Korean Studies. He holds a Ph.D. in History and International Relations of Contemporary Asia from the University of Cagliari and has taught at institutions including the University of Sheffield (UK) and the University of Southern California (USA). His research focuses on North and South Korean foreign and security policies, inter-Korean relations, and cultural production in East Asia.

He has directed projects on Korean Studies and East Asian media politics, including the Enhancing Korean Studies at the University of Bologna initiative (2021–2024) under the Korean Studies Promotion Service (AKS). His recent work examines the impact of U.S.-China competition on South Korea and the role of cultural diplomacy in inter-Korean relations.

Professional activities include membership in the Association for Korean Studies in Europe (AKSE) and roles as an external examiner for the University of Central Lancashire’s MA in North Korea Studies. He also serves on the Scientific Committee of the Mokichi Okada Chair at the University of Bologna.
