Marcela Ramos

Dr. Marcela Ramos is a Research Affiliate at the School of Education, University of Glasgow. An interdisciplinary researcher with expertise spanning education, economics, and sociology, she focuses on social justice, inequality, and sustainability. Her work critically examines neoliberal educational policies and their impact on families and communities, with particular emphasis on the Chilean context as an extreme case of marketized education.

Dr. Ramos's research interests center on sustainability and equity, issues of distribution and representation, literacies for citizenship education in sustainable futures, and education within highly marketized contexts. Her methodological approach draws from sociology of education, human geography, economics, and feminist/postcolonial scholarship, with expertise in critical, participatory, and mixed methods research. She has conducted research in countries shaped by neoliberal policies, colonial development processes, conflict, and inequalities.

Her recent publications analyze sociocultural factors affecting smallholder farmers' technology adoption in Colombia, pluriversal approaches to literacy, and the relationship between education and sustainability. Her work demonstrates consistent focus on how educational policies reproduce inequalities and how sustainable futures might be imagined and enacted.
