Dr. Marc Parlange is an Honorary Affiliate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He currently serves as the President of the University of Rhode Island. Previously, he was the Provost and Senior Vice President of Monash University, Australia, and Dean of UBC’s Faculty of Applied Science (2013–2017). He has held academic positions at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Dean of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering) and universities like Johns Hopkins and UC Davis.
He holds a BSc from Griffith University (Australia) and a MSc and PhD from Cornell University. His research focuses on environmental fluid mechanics, atmospheric dynamics, and their interactions with water and soil systems. Key areas include evaporation, turbulence, and large-eddy simulation techniques, supported by environmental sensor networks and lidar technology.
Dr. Parlange has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Macelwane Medal (1997) and Dalton Medal (2007). His work bridges fundamental science and practical applications in hydrology, wind engineering, and watershed management.
