Marc E. Gaden

Marc E. Gaden is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan's School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Michigan State University. As Executive Secretary of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, he bridges academic research and binational policy implementation.

Dr. Gaden's research focuses on the human dimensions of natural resource management, transboundary governance, collaborative management frameworks, and environmental history. His work addresses cross-border conflicts, institutional capacity-building, and the politics of sustainable resource use in shared ecosystems.

His recent publications analyze historical governance structures, challenges in trust-based natural resource management, and socioecological indicators for fisheries. He also contributes to policy discussions on water ethics and climate change impacts in the Midwest.

Dr. Gaden serves as faculty advisor for the University of Michigan Fishing Team and chairs the American Sportfishing Association's Freshwater Committee. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Great Lakes Research and contributes to aquatic invasive species commissions.
