Marc D. Perry is an Associate Professor in the Department of Race, Ethnicity, Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio, affiliated with the College of Education and Human Development. His scholarship bridges cultural anthropology, African American studies, and critical race theory, focusing on intersections of black performance, antiracism, and market economies across the U.S., Circum-Caribbean, and African Diaspora.
Research Interests: Dr. Perry specializes in cultural anthropology and critical race studies, examining how Black communities navigate neoliberal market forces through cultural practices. His work critically engages with themes of racial dynamics, structural violence, and the commodification of Black culture, bodies, and space.
Scientific Awards:
- Recipient of the 2025-26 ACLS Fellowship for his second book project.
Dr. Perry has published extensively on race, hip hop, and neoliberalism, including his seminal book Negro Soy Yo (2016). His research informs debates on multiculturalism and cross-national contexts in education and policy studies.
