About
Mamoru Koketsu is an Associate Professor and Director of the Life Sciences Research Center at Gifu University. He previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Gifu University (1999-2000) and is affiliated with the Linhardt Research Labs and the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. His research focuses on synthesizing novel bioactive molecules, particularly selenium-containing compounds with antibacterial (against tuberculosis and E. coli) and anti-cancer properties (e.g., protein kinase inhibitors and apoptosis inducers).
Research activities emphasize understanding molecular interactions critical to life processes, leveraging organic chemistry to design molecules with anti-oxidative and therapeutic applications. He leads the Division of Instrumental Analysis, advancing methodologies for producing selenium-based compounds and evaluating their biological functions.
Affiliations include dual roles at Gifu University and collaborative ties with RPI's biotechnology initiatives. Contact details: Email koketsu@cc.gifu-u.ac.jp, located at BT 4211, 110 8th St., Troy, NY 12180.
