Professor Mafiz Rahman is a Professor of Economics at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ), serving as Head of the Economics Discipline. He is affiliated with the Centre for Health Research and the Institute for Resilient Regions. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master’s and Graduate Diploma from ANU, and degrees from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh. His research focuses on Environmental Economics, Energy Economics, Development Economics, Health Economics, and International Trade. He has published over 250 works, including 179 peer-reviewed articles in top journals, with an h-index of 46 (Google Scholar) and 33 (Scopus).
Prof Rahman secured over $1 million in federal grants for Digital Futures projects and holds editorial roles in five journals. He has examined 34 PhD theses and reviewed numerous papers. His leadership roles include Program Coordinator in Business Economics, Faculty Board member, and expert in socio-economic media commentary. He has supervised 16 PhD completions and currently guides five more, winning UniSQ’s 2024 Supervision Award.
Teaching expertise spans Macroeconomics, International Trade, and Business Economics. He is a Fellow of the Economic Society of Australia and actively contributes to policy discussions on socio-economic development.
