Madhav Rajan is the Dean and George Pratt Shultz Professor of Accounting at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He joined Booth in 2017 and began his second term as Dean in 2022. In June 2025, he was appointed Chief Global Strategist for the University of Chicago, overseeing global initiatives and international campuses. Prior to Booth, he served as Robert Jaedicke Professor of Accounting at Stanford University Graduate School of Business (1990-2001) and held roles at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Rajan’s research focuses on economics-based analysis of management accounting, including optimal contracting, performance measurement, and cost analysis. He has contributed to foundational texts like Cost Accounting: A Managerial Emphasis (18th edition, 2025) and served as editor of The Accounting Review.
