Madeline Shugert serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in Woodwinds at Western Colorado University's School of the Arts. Based in Crested Butte, Colorado, she brings extensive experience in both classical and American roots music performance and education.
Her educational background includes a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and dual Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance and Music Education from the University of Colorado. She studied under notable instructors including Dr. Otis Murphy and Mr. Tom Myer, and has participated in master classes with internationally renowned artists such as Claude Delangle, Arno Bornkamp, and Masato Kumoi.
From 2016 to 2023, Shugert gained valuable international teaching experience at Wellington College International School and Shanghai United International School, where she taught woodwinds, band, jazz ensemble, and general music. Her professional activities also include performing banjo and vocals in an old-time and bluegrass duo, reflecting her deep connection to Colorado's musical heritage.
