Dr. Lyle McKinnon is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba's Max Rady College of Medicine, holding dual appointments in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and the Department of Community Health Sciences. His research focuses on HIV transmission, mucosal immunology, and the interplay between microbiome, inflammation, and immune responses in high-risk populations. Dr. McKinnon has published over 125 peer-reviewed articles, with an H-index of 40, and secured significant funding from CIHR, NSERC, NIH, and others.

Research Interests: Dr. McKinnon explores HIV transmission dynamics in mucosal tissues, immune tolerance mechanisms, and the role of the microbiome in disease susceptibility. His work extends to HPV clearance and immunity against chlamydia/gonorrhea, with a focus on developing mucosal vaccine strategies. Collaborations include studies with female sex workers, men who have sex with men, and young women in Africa and Canada.
