Luke R. Perreault

Luke R. Perreault is a Core Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering at Boston College. He holds a B.S. and M.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (2015-2016) and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University (2021). His research focuses on cellular agriculture, cardiac regenerative engineering, and fibroblast-ECM interactions, with a strong emphasis on developing sustainable biomaterials for engineered tissues and edible plant-based scaffolds for cultured meat production.

Dr. Perreault’s work combines interdisciplinary approaches, including tissue engineering, biomechanics, and molecular biology. He has pioneered methods to repurpose agricultural waste into edible scaffolds, as highlighted in his 2022 Applied Sciences publication. His postdoctoral research under Prof. Glenn Gaudette at BC advanced decellularized plant scaffolds for lab-grown meat, leveraging plant-derived materials for scalable food production. His American Heart Association fellowship supported studies on age-related cardiac tissue remodeling, published in Physiological Genomics (2021).
