Luke Norris

Luke Norris is a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Coaching at Hartpury University, where he has been employed since 2021. He completed his PhD in Sport Psychology at Leeds Beckett University in 2018 and previously held part-time and associate lecturing positions at Leeds Beckett University and the University of Exeter, respectively.

His primary research interests focus on social support mechanisms and the psychological well-being of sports coaches. He employs qualitative and longitudinal methods to explore stressors, coping strategies, and support networks among coaches, particularly in high-performance and women’s football contexts. His work contributes to the development of applied interventions aimed at improving coach resilience and performance.

His recent publications highlight a consistent trend in examining the emotional, informational, and esteem-based support available to coaches, analyzing how these resources buffer stress and enhance well-being. Themes across his work include mentorship, social networks, stress appraisal, and coping in coaching environments.

Luke Norris is also actively involved in applied research as a member of the UK Coaching Applied Coaching Research Journal Editorial Team, bridging academic insights with practical coaching applications.

He teaches and leads modules such as Introduction to Sport and Exercise Psychology, The Sport and Exercise Scientist, and Sport Psychology in Action. He also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and serves as an Academic Personal Tutor.

Additionally, Norris is a UEFA B qualified football coach with over 13 years of experience in women's football, grounding his academic work in practical coaching experience.
