About
Dr. Lukas Cyganek is the Head of the Stem Cell Unit at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG). He holds a doctoral degree ('Dr. rer. nat.') from the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and has conducted post-doctoral research in cardiology and stem cell biology. His research focuses on induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), genome editing, and cardiac disease modeling to understand cardiovascular pathophysiology and develop therapeutic strategies. Cyganek leads a team investigating CRISPR/Cas9 applications, cardiac differentiation, and regenerative approaches for heart failure treatment.
Education: Studied chemistry and biology at Georg-August University (2009 state exam in chemistry), completed a PhD in the 'Molecular Physiology of the Brain' program (2012), and served as a post-doctoral researcher until 2015.
Research Interests: Combining iPSC technology with advanced methods to study cardiomyocyte function, disease mechanisms, and translational therapies. Key areas include omics-based analysis, tissue engineering, and drug/gene therapy development.
