Luis Colon-Perez, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Neuroscience at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). He is affiliated with the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences and leads the Colon-Perez Neuroimaging Lab. His research focuses on understanding neural changes in neuropsychiatric disorders, particularly substance use disorders, using neuroimaging and computational neuroscience methods. Key techniques include MRI, connectomics, functional connectivity analysis, tractography, and graph theory.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, University of Florida
- BS in Physics, University of Puerto Rico
Research Interests: Substance use disorders, Alzheimer's disease, aging, in vivo small animal imaging, and cognition in neuropsychiatric disorders. His lab integrates diffusion and functional MRI with network analysis to study brain connectivity and topology in disease models.
Grants & Projects:
- Active project: UNTHSC Team Science - Team-based discovery and preclinical evaluation of cocaine addiction treatments (Co-PI)
- NIDA-funded project: Determining the Effects of Bat (PI)
- Brain & Behavior Research Foundation grant: Longitudinal biophysical markers of neuroinflammation due to morphine self-administration (PI)
Labs/Teams: Colon-Perez Neuroimaging Lab focuses on connectomics and computational neuroscience to identify biomarkers for behavior and cognition in neuropsychiatric disorders.
