Lucy Curzon is a Professor of Art History specializing in modern and contemporary art, particularly focusing on gender, national identity, and visual culture in Britain and Western Europe. She serves as Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Art History at the University of Alabama, College of Arts and Sciences. Her research explores interwar, wartime, and postwar periods, as well as queer kinship representations. Dr. Curzon holds a PhD in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester and a BA in British History from the University of King's College (Halifax).

Research Interests: Dr. Curzon’s work examines the intersection of visual culture, national identity, and gender. Her recent projects include Art and Citizenship in Conflict: British Women War Artists, 1939-45 and co-editing The Historical Contexts and Contemporary Uses of Mass-Observation: 1930s to the Present. She is a leading scholar on Mass-Observation’s visual documentation and queer portraiture.

Grants & Leadership: She has held grants from the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, the College Academy of Research, and the University of Alabama. As a Leadership Board Faculty Fellow (2018–2021), she contributed to academic leadership. Her service roles include membership on the Alliance for the Study of Adoption & Culture (ASAC) Executive Committee and editorial boards for Mass Observation Critical Series and Formations: Adoption, Kinship, and Culture.
Teaching & Projects: Courses include Art Since World War II, Graduate Seminar in Modern and Contemporary Art, and Photographic Discourse. Current projects address British women war artists and the evolving uses of Mass-Observation data.
