Dr. Lucy Abbott is a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. She serves as Programme Co-Director and Cohort Lead for the MSc International Relations program. Her research focuses on Middle East politics, governance, international political economy, and democratization processes. She is affiliated with the Governance & Democracy Group, International Political Economy Research Group, and Middle East Research Group.
Teaching includes courses on Gulf Politics, Middle East Politics, and Comparative Politics in a Globalized World. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks (e.g., Habermasian public sphere theory) with empirical studies on regional dynamics like the GCC crisis and Arab Spring movements. She contributes to academic governance as an Academic Committee Member at Edinburgh University Press and Senior Fellow at Advance HE.
