Louise Ritchie is Professor and Reader in Dementia Research at the Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice, University of the West of Scotland. Her research examines dementia experiences, particularly employment challenges, housing solutions, and non-pharmacological interventions including music therapy and animal-assisted activities.
Current projects include evaluating the Dementia Inclusive Singing Network (Life Changes Trust funded) and investigating supported housing impacts (Abbeyfield Research Foundation). She explores employer responses to dementia in Scottish workplaces through Carnegie Trust-funded research, informing policy for employment support post-diagnosis.
Ritchie received the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (2020) and Herald Higher Education Award for Community Contribution (2023). As Executive Committee Member of the Scottish Dementia Research Consortium, she advances interdisciplinary dementia research methodologies.
