About
Loredana Protesescu is an Associate Professor (tenured) at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, part of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. Her research focuses on nanomaterials, colloidal chemistry, and perovskite-based semiconductors. She leads the Protesescu Lab, which explores energy materials, catalysis, and optoelectronic applications. Protesescu holds a PhD from ETH Zurich (2016) and conducted postdoctoral research at MIT and ETH Zurich. She has received awards including the NWO Veni Grant (2019) and the Nanomaterials 2020 Young Investigator Award. She teaches courses on coordination chemistry, nanomaterials, and engineered nanomaterials for industry.
Her research group has developed novel nanocrystals, including metal boride nanocrystals and tin halide perovskites, with applications in energy storage, catalysis, and coatings. Key contributions include patents on hard coatings from metal boride inks and studies on perovskite stability. Protesescu supervises PhD and master's students, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and sustainable materials development.
