Liz Garton Scanlon is a poet, picture book writer, and middle grade author who has served on the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults (WCYA) faculty since 2016, currently holding the position of Faculty Co-Chair for the program.
Ms. Scanlon has been writing and publishing for young people for more than 20 years. Her notable works include the Caldecott-honored All the World, the middle grade novels The Great Good Summer and Lolo's Light, and numerous beloved picture books including A Sock Is a Pocket for Your Toes. Her educational background includes an MA in English from the University of Texas, Austin, and a BA in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Her work spans children's poetry, picture books, and middle grade fiction with emphasis on rhythm, everyday objects transformed into meaningful stories, family relationships, and children's perspectives. Ms. Scanlon's publications regularly receive starred reviews and appear on 'best of' lists.

Her work has been translated into more than a dozen languages worldwide. As an educator, Ms. Scanlon regularly teaches at schools, libraries, and conferences across the country, sharing her expertise in crafting stories that authentically capture children's perspectives and experiences.
