About
Liu Keyi is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Music at University College Cork (UCC), affiliated with the School of Film, Music and Theatre. She currently works on the ERC-funded project ECura, exploring how ethnic minority communities in southwestern China use digital media to sustain traditional music and dance practices.
Education:
- PhD in Ethnomusicology, University College Cork (2023) – funded by a College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Excellence Scholarship
- MA in Ethnomusicology, University of Manchester (2018)
- BA in Musicology, China Conservatory of Music (2016)
Her research focuses on the music and dance traditions of China’s indigenous minorities, particularly the Lisu community. Through immersive fieldwork in mountainous regions, she examines cultural resilience, environmental connections, and transnational cultural exchanges. Current projects investigate digital media’s role in preserving expressive practices among Bai, Miao, and Yi communities.
