Dr. Lisa Foran is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy at the University College Dublin (UCD), School of Philosophy. She holds a BA from UCD, an MA in Translation Studies from Dublin City University, and a PhD in Philosophy from UCD. Her academic journey includes roles such as Teaching and Research Fellow at UCD (2014-2015), Lecturer in European Philosophy at Newcastle University (2015-2019), and her current position at UCD since 2019. She is also co-editor of the International Journal of Philosophical Studies and coordinates several MA programs.
Her research focuses on Twentieth Century European Philosophy, particularly the interplay between hermeneutics and phenomenology, with key interests in translation theory, ethics, and continental aesthetics. She has published widely, including monographs like Derrida, the Subject, and the Other (2016) and edited volumes such as Heidegger, Levinas, and Derrida (2016). Her recent work explores untranslatability’s ethical implications and political identity, especially European and Irish national identity.
