Thomas William Rule

Thomas William Rule is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at The American University in Cairo (AUC) since September 2021. His work focuses on 19th-20th Century Continental Philosophy, particularly Heidegger and philosophical anthropology, with secondary interests in Ethics and the History of Philosophy (Ancient and Modern).

• PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2021)
• MA in Philosophy from San Francisco State University

His research explores existential meaning through the lens of thinkers such as Nietzsche, Heidegger, Levinas, and Derrida. In his dissertation, he re-examined the ethical dimensions of existential meaning by analyzing Heidegger's concepts of 'home' and 'journeying away from home.'

Rule is actively involved in professional organizations, including the American Philosophical Association and the Heidegger Circle at DePaul University.
