Lisa Fohler

Lisa Fohler is a researcher at the Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering under the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). She specializes in microbial biotechnology, focusing on enzyme production and protein engineering for industrial applications.

Her research is centered on developing efficient expression systems for thermophilic enzymes like PETases, with recent work on optimizing Escherichia coli-based production of the highly active PETases PHL7 and PHL7mut3. These enzymes are critical for sustainable polymer degradation technologies. She has presented her findings at major conferences such as the European Summit of Industrial Biotechnology 2024 and the BOKU Nachhaltigkeitstag 2024.

She supervised the 2023 Master/Diploma thesis by Lukas Leibetseder on polyolefin-degrading enzyme production using E. coli systems. Her work aligns with BOKU's emphasis on bioeconomy and sustainable industrial processes.
